Professor Miriam (a.k.a. Miriam A. Smith) always wanted to make a difference in the world.
She began her career as a lawyer, but came to realize
she would have a greater impact in the classroom.
She has now taught (and teaches) media law, ethics and management in the
Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts (BECA) department at San Francisco
State University for several decades.
Beyond the classroom, she is the BECA Internship Coordinator and created the week-long on-location LA Seminar which introduces students to alumni and other media professionals industry in Los Angeles.
Professor Miriam is also the producer of the series (in development), Forgotten Folk Dances.
Working in conjunction with students, professionals and performers, the series tells the stories
of the relatively secret world of international folk dance festivals.
An oboist in her youth, she is a long-time member of the San Francisco State Handbell Choir.
